Welcome to PolarWx! This is the latest version of a real-time weather data visualization website I first made as an undergraduate student at the University at Albany, SUNY around 2014. This project started as a tool to help my instructors teach weather analysis and forecasting more effectively in class with a more intuitive and user-friendly interface, which gradually progressed into making my own unique weather visualizations of real-time weather models and incrementally expanding the website and improving its user interface. Maintaining this website hasn't come without its challenges; during my PhD studies, numerous catastrophic failures to the server hosting the previous version of this website brought it down for months at a time, including some permanent data loss which took months to recover from.

I have been a weather enthusiast for many years, having been fascinated by snowstorms, severe weather and forecasting growing up in New Jersey, which led me to pursue a career in Atmospheric Science. I completed my B.S. and M.S. degrees at the University at Albany, State University of New York, and my Ph.D. degree at the University of Oklahoma under the advisement of Dr. Steven Cavallo. My experiences in the Northeast U.S. and the South Plains exposed me to a wide variety of weather phenomena - while my Ph.D. research primarily focused on Arctic meteorology, and Tropopause Polar Vortices (TPVs), just about every meteorological phenomenon fascinates me. After completing my Ph.D., I worked in the development branch of NOAA's Weather Prediction Center, where I facilitated a new forecast testbed focused on Atmospheric Rivers (ARs), and currently work as a meteorologist at WindBorne Systems.

My objective with this website is to provide real-time weather analysis and forecasting tools that are useful for a wide variety of applications, from teaching to operations and any casual use, with an intuitive, clean, and easy-to-use user interface.
